Assessor Overview

The Assessor is responsible for establishing assessments of Real and Personal property in accordance with Michigan’s General Property Tax Act and other applicable statues.

The Assessor’s responsibilities include creating the annual assessment roll, maintaining ownership records and property descriptions for tax purposes, processing Personal Property Statements and personal exemption requests, and inspecting existing property and new construction for tax purposes. Taxable values established by the Assessor are used by the Township Treasurer to produce property tax bills for property within the Township.

The Assessor does have an appraisal record card of each parcel on file to determine the assessment and taxable values. This Information on the appraisal record card is available to the public online on a free site at www.sagagis.org along with a sketch, photo and tax information.

The Assessor is required to mail change of assessment notices each year 14 days before the first meeting of the March Board of Review. Please see the Township Calendar for the days and times of these meetings.
